Gethen gets his blue belt in life

Day 1/42
1)BJJ 4 times a week
2)Set an alarm and wake up to eat breakfast in the morning allowing time for it to settle on BJJ days
3) Home exercises for shoulder neck and hip mobility 30 minutes every day
4) Gym 3 times a week
5) No candy at all during the day for all 42 days and 4 desserts total over the 6 week cycle
6) No phone in bed or 30 minutes before and no internet browsing/TV or texting after 10pm

Didn’t allow a frustrating wait at the poker room to get a seat to turn into poor play

Setting up my cycle 2 since it’s 10:20 and I am tired but set time aside tonight and am finishing it
- What would I like to improve on tomorrow
Better sleep and less frustration at work. Off to do 1 of those now and planning on talking to my boss about the aspects of work that are bothering me

Sleep 3.
Annaliese and her neck pain kept me awake until 4:20am.
I think I may sleep on the futon in the living room tonight because this is really messing up my plans

1. **BJJ** No I took dog for a bike ride as Annaliese still can’t move about and just didn’t feel like I had enough energy for training
2. **wake up** Yes made oatmeal for breakfast then went on bike ride

6. **Bedtime routine**About to get started and am sleeping on futon tonight

4. **Gym** Yes nice to stretch and do some band work at the gym and overcome anxiety about going

Made a to do list today and then basically ignored half the things on it and just did other stuff (productive but not how I want to continue)
Felt very resistant to following along with my list and am going to be much stricter with my list for tomorrow and not move on until I have completed the next item on the list and take few minutes to meditate on why I felt such push back to locking my day plan down.

Slept on the futon and had much better overall sleep with minimal wake ups. My neck was tender this morning waking up which might partly be bed related and also the fact I have upped my rehab and massage work.
Have errands and things to do today but have day off from work so looking forward to doing something fun this evening and maybe going to watch a movie or out for a healthy dinner.
To do list made and being followed

Injuries definitely putting dent in my overall happiness and holding me back doing 1 of the things I like best Jiu jitsu.
Have a rib out at the back and it has caused lot of misalignment on my left side. Working with a Annaliese on fixing it and hopeful that with a little time and willingness to avoid putting myself in positions to worsen it. Did well following my list today but definitely felt low and depressed missing exercise and being uncomfortable. Trying to listen to my body but not use anything as an excuse to not push myself forward. The balancing act continues!!!

Yes finally a good nights sleep without pain! Annaliese worked on my rib and neck before bed and it made a huge difference with sleep quality and ease of falling asleep!
Feel motivated and excited for my day and was so keen I almost forgot to post this morning

Neck and back was feeling much better today and am going to try and make it to jiu jitsu in the morning..
Something I am grateful for today was having all 3 people in the group all check in on me and give me positive encouragement and that extra push to stay on track.
Managed to get a bike ride in for exercise today and was really fighting the urge for cookies or brownies tonight but managed to talk myself out of cheating. I realize that setting goals often gives you that feeling of satisfaction without then having to follow through on them so I have to be careful not to congratulate myself on staying on track with a goal until I am absolutely past the moment of temptation. Looking forward to my second night in a row of good sleep because as I have been informed several times by Annaliese today “you are a cranky bastard when you are in pain and not sleeping well!” Ahhhh Love! Very Happy

Good restful sleep but do feel like I am still repaying the debt of the bad nights from earlier in the week. Had breakfast and am going to go train very lightly at jiu jitsu now and see how I feel afterwards.

Good day with BJJ and 2 bike rides for exercise and managed to get in reasonable amount of work.
1. **BJJ** Yes but only light drilling and no rolling
2. **wake up** Yes
3. **30 minutes stretching/rehab** Yes and also a nice massage from Annnaliese
4. **Gym** No but 2 bike rides
5. **No sweets** Yes. Had nice Chinese food for dinner but no dessert
6. **Bedtime routine**About to get started
Keeping it short tonight I am tired and full of Chinese food but checked in with everyone today and feels good to be part of the core 4!
Have tennis and gym session scheduled for tomorrow

8/10 catching up from week it feels like based on waking up still tired but the sleep was good and feel great now. Missed having enough time for breakfast before my tennis session today so first fail on my wake up routine so far

5. **No sweets** Yes. Did have veggie burger and fries for dinner (they were sweet potato fries but not the best healthy choice)

6/10 woke up thirsty a few times in the night and definitely need to up water intake before bed on warmer days where I exercise more

Morning update! 5/10 sleep. Woke up several times in the night when Annaliese went to the bathroom and had little trouble falling back asleep. Tried some breathing exercises and meditation and it worked great until I snapped out of a calm state to congratulate myself on how well I was doing at getting into a calm state...(stupid brain ruining it for everybody)
Struggling with the moral quicksand of sending money to Nazis.
Been super productive when left alone but feel like I have been dragged down by the weight of slow group think tasks today and grateful I have people like you 3 to vent to and get feedback and advice from

1. **BJJ** No and not sure given work situation I will be able to train tomorrow morning
2. **wake up** Yes woke up ok but still need to fine tune my morning routine. I notice when I am waking up things take longer than anticipated and I need to budget additional time to get everything completed in the morning.
3. **30 minutes stretching/rehab** 20 minutes of stretching and used foam roller and ball on my back and hips
4. **Gym** No. biked for 45 minutes this evening
5. **No sweets**ate well today and really appreciate Sorenson check in’s rhis evening keeping me on track

Very grateful for the extra help and support I received from everyone today and the little business guru Peyt teaching me his training ways was amusing and useful

Sleep 8. 7 hours with no interruptions and didn’t wake up feeling dehydrated today. Have app recommendation from Peyt I plan on integrating tomorrow so today will be my last day working off my notepad to do list. Neck is still bothering me so skipping jiu jitsu doing some cardio on the bike and getting right down to work. Have social time planned for a lunch meet up and am excited for the rest of my day. Already checked in and read everyone’s posts so feeling fully motivated for productive day.

Feeling a little unwell now actually so not going to write my week review and try and get a bit of extra sleep. Hoping I can avoid having this turn into a case of the flu

8/10 got an extra 90 minutes of sleep today which seems to of helped with the slight bug I was feeling yesterday. Hydrating and taking my vitamins and hopeful I can stay healthy

Don’t feel sick but definitely crashed really hard about 20 minutes ago and feel very drained right now
1. **BJJ** No
2. **wake up** Slept in a bit but happy with morning routine today and felt more efficient getting ready for work. Still some fine tuning to do but getting better
3. **30 minutes stretching/rehab** I did some light stretching at the casino and made sure my seated posture was good but didn’t do my 30 minute routine today
4. **Gym** Biked and stretched my legs
5. **No sweets** YES had a small brownie after dinner (felt myself craving hard and feeling resentful of Annaliese so made tonight a dessert night and now feel much better about a couple more weeks without treats)
6. **Bedtime routine**About to get started
Check ins feel like they are going strong and I hope I am helping Claire and Sorenson as much as they are helping me stay on track.
Had nice 3.3k win at the casino and poker game feels sharp

9/10 full nights sleep even though bedtime was a little later than I wanted, settling the dog down took longer last night as he was very playful and making some noises

Long day but happy with my effort and got to have calls with Claire and Sorenson which was nice.
1. **BJJ** Yes so good to be back on the mats and got to witness my friend get his blue belt today
2. **wake up** Yes really felt well rested this morning and then let my good energy levels spiral and failed to buckle down hard on each task in a systematic manner
3. **30 minutes stretching/rehab** Yes during the rolling time at BJJ I stretched and rehabbed my neck and shoulder
4. **Gym** Biked this morning for 45 minutes
5. **No sweets** No sweets just a little melon after my meal at the casino
6. **Bedtime routine**About to get started

8/10 late night but slept straight through to 7am and then woke up thirsty but managed to have a water and get another hour or so sleep
Body feels good after jiu jitsu and neck hasn’t reacted poorly
